Paris Saint-Germain promise to take action against Neymar for missing pre-season training amid Barcelona links
Neymar is set to be punished by Paris Saint-Germain after failing to report for pre-season training amid speculation surrounding his future.
The Brazil star has been heavily linked with a return to Barcelona this summer and his absence will only add fuel to those rumours.
PSG are fuming with the forward, who they paid a world record fee to sign in 2017, and have promised to take action.
An official club statement read: “On Monday 8 July Neymar da Silva Santos Junior was due to return to pre-season activities with the Paris Saint-Germain senior squad.
“Paris Saint-Germain notes that Neymar Jr was not in attendance at the agreed time and place. This was without the club’s prior authorisation.
“The club regrets this situation and will therefore take appropriate action.”Neymar, who is currently recovering from an ankle injury, was in Brazil on Sunday night to watch his country win the Copa America. His father and agent, Neymar Sr, has claimed the club knew about the 27-year-old’s absence in advance.
He said: “The reason is known, scheduled a year ago with the annual schedule of Instituto Projeto Neymar.
“We could not change, and the presentation will be on the 15th. It is that simple… no controversy, and PSG [was] informed.”
Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has already confirmed that Neymar wants to leave Paris following a disappointing spell in the French capital.
“We know that Neymar wants to leave PSG, but PSG don’t want Neymar to leave, so there is no story,” he said.
