Mauricio Pochettino becomes Barcelona top target if Setien is sacked
Mauricio Pochettino has become a prime target for Barcelona this summer if under pressure boss Quique Setien is relieved of his duties.
The Spanish giants have reportedly told Setien that he would be shown the door if he fails to win the Champions League this season.
Barcelona and Napoli played a 1-1 draw in their round of 16 clash in Naples and the second leg will be decided at the Camp Nou this weekend.
Setien was only brought in for Ernesto Valverde in January and it looks like the former Real Betis manager’s days are numbered with La Blaugrana.
Reports from Daily Mail claim the Spanish boss will be let off the hook if he does not win the Champions League after surrendering La Liga title to rivals Real Madrid.
And it is understood that former Tottenham manager who has been out of work since last year October will be hired ahead of next season’s campaign.
Pochettino in 2018 made comments about not accepting any offer coming from Barcelona or Arsenal while he was still Spurs coach.
But the Argentine recently took back his words claiming no one knows what the future holds.
“Espanyol is where I made my name but I am not arrogant and I don’t like having made a statement like that on.
“Perhaps now I would not have said that because in life you never know what will happen.
“I had seen Bartomeu in a cafe [in 2018] and we greeted each other and chatted for five minutes.
“That generated a rumour and I wanted to quash the rumour but I did not want to disrespect Barcelona,” quoted by Express UK.
