PublishedBy: in SportDecember 2, 2019

Barcelona talisman, Lionel Messi, for a world record of 4th time has been named the IFFHS award winner for world’s best playmaker of the year 2019.

The Argentine forward, 32, beat off competition from former Chelsea star Eden Hazard and Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne.

Considered football posterboy of his generation, Messi failed to win Champions League but guided Barcelona to domestic glory last season.

His stellar performance has now seen him crowned again as the playmaker of the year by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS).

Magnificent Messi claimed award with 299 points ahead of the Man City star who came second with 85 points.

Belgium star Eden Hazard came third with Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino and Man City’s Bernardo Silva sealing the top five spot.

Messi, a five-time Ballon d’Or award winner, currently holds the all-time record of the IFFHS most awards with nine in ten years.

He was crowned FIFA The Best player for the year 2019 ahead of Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo and Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk.
