Probe my predecessor – Governor Seyi Makinde tells EFCC, ICPC

Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde, has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to launch an investigation against his predecessor, Abiola Ajimobi.

Makinde allegedly claimed that the former governor of the state diverted funds meant for projects in Oyo for personal gains.

In a letter written to the anti-graft agencies, the executive chairman of Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership (CACOL), Debo Adeniran, said the governor through a panel called for an investigation into all financial activities of the past Oyo state administration.

Adeniran in the letter dated Saturday, September 14, alleged that Ajimobi and his aides carted away with some vehicles belonging to the state government.

He also said that these vehicles were not paid for or even bought for the officials.

Many of the vehicles were never bought by officials of the past administration. There is nowhere in the public service that a governor is allowed to give public property away to cronies like a Santa Claus”.

“The governor also made a claim about his predecessor on the money meant for the project which was diverted, what he met on ground was a situation where a project for which money was allocated, got only about 10% of the total funds for execution,” Adeniran said.

Adeniran said CACOL has it on record that the funds looted by the past administration were shared among officials.

“We, therefore, have reasons to believe that the matter raised by Oyo state incumbent governor is weighty enough to attract the interest and concern of the two major anti-corruption agencies in the country (the and EFCC) to warrant a complete investigation.

“We are ready and willing to avail your agency of necessary cooperation in ensuring that justice is manifestly done on this matter,” CACOL executive chairman added.
